World Health Day 2014

Happy Monday everyone! Mondays are always a drag! What better way to start it than with a day full of health awareness?

Healthy Heart

Today marks the World Health Day of 2014! The World Health Organization and other parties are helping to spread the awareness and you can too!

This day, each year, is to bring awareness to particular diseases and bring forth certain priorities in global health that need attention! A global observance day, not a paid-holiday….although that would have been nice! 😉

“Physical fitness is not only one of the most important keys to a healthy body, it is the basis of dynamic and creative intellectual activity.”

~ John F. Kennedy

This year, they are bringing more awareness to DENGUE. Can you guess where you are most likely to get it from? Mosquitoes! Yuck! Of all the animals to carry this disease, why mosquitoes? I am deathly scared and allergic to mosquitoes. I get bit and the bite swells up so much! This is no joke! Dengue, that is! 40% of the world’s population is at risk…. 40%!!!!

Can you imagine all in one day 40% of the WORLD’S population falling sick to this disease? That’s a massive number! Quite scary to think about. Such a tiny insect with powerful threats to human health. I get chills reading articles like this because I know how much a bite from a mosquito affects me! Not just mosquitoes, but ticks, flies, water snails, and many other insects! Please everyone be careful and take protective measures when you are traveling and plan to be in hot, tropical places!

Completely agree with this quote:

“Life expectancy would grow by leaps and bounds if green vegetables smelled as good as bacon.”

~ Doug Larson
